What Hawaii Requires
Every Hawaii LLC must continuously maintain a registered agent listed with the DCCA. The requirements are straightforward:
- Physical Hawaii street address — a P.O. box alone doesn't qualify; the agent needs a real, physical in-state location.
- Reliable document receipt — arrange prompt handling and forwarding at the required in-state office.
- Hawaii resident, domestic entity or authorized foreign entity — if you're an out-of-state individual or business, you'll typically need a commercial agent instead.
- Can be you, a co-owner, or a hired service — Hawaii allows self-service as long as you meet the address and availability rules.

Form X-11 and its $100 fee concern the commercial registered-agent listing procedure. This is separate from appointing an ordinary eligible agent for your LLC and is not a universal fee payable by every LLC. Confirm whether the selected provider operates under that listing procedure.
Your registered agent address is public recordWhatever address you list as your registered agent becomes part of Hawaii's public business filings, searchable by anyone through the DCCA's business name search. If you're operating out of your home and don't want your personal address publicly associated with your LLC, a commercial registered agent service keeps that address off the public record entirely.
