Arizona LLC Naming Rules
Arizona's naming rules come from A.R.S. § 29-3112 and related sections. Your name needs to clear three tests before the Arizona Corporation Commission will accept it:
- Include a designator — "Limited Liability Company," "Limited Company," "LLC," or "L.L.C."
- Be distinguishable from every other business name on file with the ACC.
- Not use corporate or restricted words — no "corporation," "incorporated," "association," or their abbreviations, and no restricted words (bank, trust, credit union) without agency approval.
Swapping the designator alone won't make a name distinguishableArizona explicitly treats a name that merely swaps its entity-type designator — changing "LLC" to "Inc.," for instance — as the same name as an existing one. If your first choice is taken, change a real word, rearrange the word order, or add a genuinely distinctive term rather than tweaking the designator or punctuation.

Searching & Reserving Your Name
Run a free search on the ACC's Business Entity Database before you file. If you want to lock in a name before you're ready to file your Articles of Organization, you can reserve it for $10, which holds it for 120 days — but this step is entirely optional.

- Reservation is optional and often skipped — most filers just file the Articles of Organization directly, which registers the name immediately.
- The ACC doesn't handle DBAs — trade names go through the Arizona Secretary of State, and Maricopa County has its own separate DBA recording process.
A name reservation is not the same as a DBAReserving a name simply holds it with the ACC for 120 days so you have time to form your LLC — it isn't a trade name and doesn't let you operate under a different name than your legal LLC name. If you want a "doing business as" name, that's a completely separate filing with a different office entirely.
