Idaho LLC Taxes — Step 8 of 8
Default LLC tax treatment generally passes income through to owners. Classification, activity and the tax year control the filing and payment requirements. The illustration below uses 2025 inputs; it is not a final return calculation or a 2026 forecast.
Idaho’s 2025 individual tax instructions apply a 5.3% rate after the applicable taxable-income threshold. Default LLC owners may owe owner-level tax; corporate or other entity elections have different requirements. The state calculation is more specific than applying 5.3% to every dollar of net profit. Check current-year instructions.

How an Idaho LLC Is Taxed by Default
An LLC itself pays no federal income tax — it's a "pass-through" entity by default. Profits flow to the owners' personal returns, where multiple layers of tax apply:
- Single-Governor LLCs report profit on Schedule C, attached to the owner's personal Form 1040 and Idaho Form 40.
- Multi-Governor LLCs file Form 1065 (informational) and issue each owner a Schedule K-1 showing their share of profit.
- Self-employment tax (15.3%) applies to net profit, covering Social Security and Medicare.
- Federal income tax applies via the standard progressive brackets, after the QBI deduction and standard deduction.
- Idaho's flat 5.3% tax then applies on top — a single rate with no brackets, using the same standard deduction amount as the federal return.

Simplified 2025 illustration before QBI, credits, capital-gains deductions, additional Medicare tax and other income. Uses $15,750/$31,500 basic federal deductions, the $176,100 Social Security wage base and 2025 federal brackets. The Idaho illustration subtracts the $4,811 single/$9,622 joint threshold before applying 5.3%. It omits many return adjustments and is not a 2026 forecast or complete filing calculation.
The S-Corp Election Option
Compare an S-corporation election using actual reasonable wages, payroll and compliance costs, state classification and owner circumstances. No universal profit threshold establishes savings. Check the applicable tax year and entity payment rules separately from individual voluntary Form 51 payments.
Idaho-Specific Tax Notes
- No preferential capital gains rate — long-term capital gains are taxed as ordinary income at the same flat 5.3% rate, unlike states with a lower capital gains tier.
- No local income taxes — Idaho doesn't permit cities or counties to add their own income tax on top of the state rate.
- Individuals may make voluntary state payments — Form 51 supports voluntary individual payments. Federal estimates, extension prepayments and corporate/entity rules must be assessed separately.
- IDeal 529 deduction available — contributions to Idaho's own college savings plan are deductible from Idaho taxable income, worth knowing if you're planning for a family's education costs alongside your business income.
- ✓Optional formation assistance; confirm filing scope, service pricing and submission responsibilities.
- ✓Confirm whether EIN assistance is offered, applicant eligibility and any provider assistance fee.
- ✓Confirm registered-agent eligibility, coverage, included periods and renewal charges.
- ✓Review address-use rules and privacy policies; a service does not remove all information from public filings.

Capital Gains and Estimated-Payment Rules
Idaho permits a deduction of up to 60% of qualifying Idaho capital gain net income, computed using Form CG. Property, location, use and holding-period requirements matter. Do not assume every capital gain or sale of an LLC interest qualifies; follow current Form CG and pass-through instructions. Idaho does not require individuals to make state estimated income-tax payments; voluntary payments can be made using Form 51. This does not remove federal estimated-tax requirements, extension prepayment conditions, or separate corporate/entity payment rules. Review the LLC’s classification and the applicable current form.
